Step 1 Register Online:
Free lessons are held every Saturday from 7am until 9am. Online registration will close once the maximum number of students have been met. If you are unable to register, you can still sign up for the paid group lessons at 9:30am. We respect everyone's time and want to get the maximum time in the water having fun!The maximum size goes as follows:
Surf Lessons: 120 students Stand Up Paddle Lessons: 21 students Skim Lessons: 15 students
If you are unable to attend the free lesson session, there is a 9:30 session available that is paid but at a reduced rate than a standard private lesson.
After you register you will need to fill out an electronic waiver, we require a completed waiver for every participant. If the student is a minor, a parent or legal guardian will need to complete the waiver. We only need the waiver completed one time. After that, only a wrist-band is needed. If possible, please download and complete the following form and bring it in with you. Otherwise, we will have them available at the store to complete.
The lessons begin at the store. When you arrive, please stop inside the store to get your wristband with emergency contact info. Anyone going in the water will need a wristband for the lessons. After a short instruction, we will go as a group down to the beach. It is important to meet at the store in order to be assigned a board.

What are the parking options?
Option 1: Free Parking - There is limited free parking available at the store (arrive early).
Option 2: There are metered spots by the beach (cash only).
Option 3: We have a large parking garage directly accross the street from the store. Cost is normally $3 per hour or $9 for the day. Use the coupon below for a special rate. (cash or credit)
Warning: Do NOT park in the 7-11 or any other parking spot not mentioned above or your car may be towed.
Here’s how it works: Register online, then head over to the shop (1985 NE 2nd St., Deerfield Beach) at 7 a.m. on Saturday and bring your own shorts, sun block, and a towel. You'll completed waiver (only needed once) and receive a wrist band. You’ll grab a long board and walk to the Deerfield Beach Pier alongside the instructors. At the beach – IWS staffers like 20-year vet Kali “Da Big Kahuna” Montero and surfboard shaper Mike Pechonis – who’ll then run down the basics like safety, paddling, and that vicious pop-up. After that, the instructors will take you into the water and the fun begins.
What day/time does it start?
The lessons start promptly at 7:00am, every Saturday morning. If it is your first time, please arrive a little early to fill out a waiver.
What should I bring with me?
If you have a rash guard (surfing T-shirt), it is advised to bring/wear it. Also, a towel, and sun screen.
Are the lessons really Free?
Yes, 100% free lessons. The boards and instructors are all provided. Our instructors volunteer their time because they love the sport and love teaching others. You are welcome to come back to the free lessons as often as you like, no limit.
Are lessons every cancelled?
We hold our surf lessons 99.9% of the year. On rare occasions, we cancel due to weather/ocean conditions. If we know that class will be cancelled, we will post it here on the site. Unfortunately, sometimes, we do not know if we are forced to cancel until that Saturday morning. If you would like to verify if surf lessons are being held, you may call the store the evening before or that Saturday morning starting at 6:30am. Call: 954-427-4929
Why do you offer the free lessons?
We love surfing and we know you will too. However, it's not for everyone. We strongly believe in a "try before you buy" philosophy. There's no need to spend money on private lessons to find out that it's not really for you. If you love it, and want that one-on-one attention, then private/paid lessons are available for a reasonable fee.
